For the purposes of applicable UK data protection law, Liam Howe is the data controller where PlugSpend determines how personal data is processed.
2. Our approach to privacy
PlugSpend is designed to minimise the collection and storage of personal information.
PlugSpend does not operate a central database containing your charging history or other app records.
Your charging information is primarily stored:
- on your device; and
- within your private Apple iCloud storage where iCloud synchronisation or backup is enabled.
PlugSpend does not use advertising, behavioural tracking, third-party analytics or marketing technologies.
3. Sign in with Apple
PlugSpend uses Sign in with Apple for authentication.
Authentication is handled by Apple. Apple provides PlugSpend with information necessary to authenticate and recognise your account.
Depending on your Apple account settings and the information made available through Sign in with Apple, this may include an Apple-generated account identifier and other authentication information.
PlugSpend does not use Sign in with Apple information for advertising, marketing or behavioural profiling.
PlugSpend does not operate its own username and password system.
Apple's handling of information through Sign in with Apple is subject to Apple's own privacy practices.
4. Charging information
PlugSpend allows you to record information about electric vehicle charging sessions.
This may include information such as:
- charging date and time;
- energy consumed;
- charging rate;
- charging cost;
- charger information; and
- other charging-related information you choose to enter.
This information is stored within the app and may be synchronised with your private iCloud storage.
PlugSpend does not maintain a separate server-side database containing your charging history.
The developer does not use your charging history for advertising, analytics, profiling or marketing.
5. iCloud
PlugSpend uses Apple's iCloud services to store, synchronise and back up app data.
Information stored using this functionality is associated with your Apple iCloud account and is processed using Apple's services.
PlugSpend does not maintain a separate copy of this information in a PlugSpend-operated database.
When you use PlugSpend's data or account deletion functionality, PlugSpend removes the relevant app data from the app and its associated iCloud storage.
Apple may separately retain information or backups in accordance with Apple's own policies and technical processes.
6. Image analysis
PlugSpend includes an optional feature that can analyse an image of an electric vehicle charging device, charging screen or similar display in order to extract charging information automatically.
When you choose to use this feature, the selected or captured image is transmitted from the app for processing.
The image passes through a Cloudflare Worker operated on behalf of PlugSpend. The Cloudflare Worker acts as a secure intermediary between the PlugSpend application and the OpenAI API.
The Cloudflare Worker is used to protect PlugSpend's API credentials and route the image-processing request.
PlugSpend has disabled persistent Cloudflare Worker logging for this service and does not intentionally log or retain submitted images within the Worker.
The image is forwarded to OpenAI for analysis. OpenAI processes the image in order to identify and return relevant charging information.
PlugSpend does not save the original submitted image in a PlugSpend-controlled database.
Once processing has completed, the image is not intentionally retained by PlugSpend.
Information extracted from the image may be saved as part of your charging record within the app and your private iCloud storage.
7. OpenAI
OpenAI acts as a service provider for PlugSpend's optional image-analysis feature.
Images submitted for analysis and the associated processing request are transmitted to OpenAI's API.
OpenAI states that data submitted through its API is not used to train its models by default.
OpenAI may temporarily retain API inputs, outputs or related information in accordance with its API data retention and abuse-monitoring policies. Depending on the API configuration and applicable OpenAI retention controls, certain data may be retained for a limited period, including up to 30 days in some circumstances.
PlugSpend does not use information submitted to OpenAI for advertising, marketing or user profiling.
8. Cloudflare
PlugSpend uses Cloudflare to provide the secure server-side Worker used by the image-analysis feature.
Cloudflare may process technical information necessary to receive, route and secure network requests as part of providing its infrastructure services.
PlugSpend has disabled persistent Workers Logs for the Worker used by this feature and does not intentionally log submitted images, extracted charging information or other request content through Cloudflare Workers Logs.
Cloudflare's own processing of information is governed by its applicable privacy and data protection terms.
9. In-app purchases
Some PlugSpend functionality may be available as premium features through an Apple in-app purchase.
Payments are processed by Apple through the App Store.
PlugSpend does not receive or store your:
- payment card number;
- bank account details; or
- other payment credentials.
PlugSpend may receive information from Apple that is necessary to determine whether you are entitled to use purchased or premium functionality.
Apple is responsible for processing payment information in accordance with its own privacy practices.
10. Analytics, advertising and tracking
PlugSpend does not use third-party analytics services.
PlugSpend does not display third-party advertising.
PlugSpend does not use your information for targeted or personalised advertising.
PlugSpend does not track you across apps or websites owned by other organisations.
PlugSpend does not sell personal information.
11. Push notifications and marketing
PlugSpend does not currently send push notifications.
PlugSpend does not send marketing emails, marketing text messages or other direct marketing communications.
13. International processing
Some of the service providers used by PlugSpend may process information outside the United Kingdom.
Where personal data protected by UK data protection law is transferred internationally, the relevant service provider is responsible for applying appropriate safeguards where required by law.
These safeguards may include recognised contractual data protection mechanisms and other lawful international transfer arrangements.
14. Legal basis for processing
Where information processed through PlugSpend constitutes personal data under UK data protection law, PlugSpend processes it only where there is an appropriate lawful basis.
Information necessary to provide authentication, storage, purchases and functionality you request may be processed where necessary to provide the PlugSpend service to you.
Information may also be processed where necessary to comply with a legal obligation or to protect the security and integrity of PlugSpend and its services.
PlugSpend does not process personal information for direct marketing or behavioural advertising.
15. Data retention
PlugSpend does not maintain its own central database containing your charging history.
Charging records stored within the app or your iCloud storage remain available until you delete them or use PlugSpend's data or account deletion functionality.
Images submitted to the optional image-analysis feature are not intentionally retained by PlugSpend after the analysis request has completed.
Cloudflare Workers Logs are disabled for the Worker used to provide this feature.
OpenAI may retain API information for a limited period in accordance with its own API retention and abuse-monitoring policies.
16. Account and data deletion
You can delete your PlugSpend data using the functionality provided within the app.
Deleting your PlugSpend data removes the applicable charging information and other app data stored by PlugSpend on your device and within the app's associated iCloud storage.
Because PlugSpend does not maintain a separate central user database, there is no additional PlugSpend charging-history database that needs to be deleted by contacting the developer.

17. Your data protection rights
If UK data protection law applies to you, you may have rights in relation to personal data processed about you.
Depending on the circumstances, these may include the right to:
- request access to your personal data;
- request correction of inaccurate personal data;
- request deletion of personal data;
- request restriction of processing;
- object to certain types of processing; and
- request data portability where applicable.
Because most PlugSpend information is stored directly on your device or within your private iCloud storage, you can access, modify and delete much of this information directly using the app.

18. Children's privacy
PlugSpend is not specifically designed for or directed at children.
The app relates to recording and managing electric vehicle charging costs and does not intentionally seek to collect personal information from children.
19. Security
PlugSpend uses technical measures intended to minimise unnecessary collection and storage of user information.
Charging information is primarily kept within the app and Apple's iCloud infrastructure rather than within a PlugSpend-operated database.
Where an image must leave the device to provide the optional image-analysis feature, it is transmitted through a server-side Cloudflare Worker to OpenAI.
API credentials used to access OpenAI are held server-side and are not stored within the PlugSpend mobile application.
Cloudflare Worker logging is disabled for this functionality.
No method of electronic transmission or storage can, however, be guaranteed to be completely secure.
20. Changes to this Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time, including where PlugSpend's functionality, service providers or data-handling practices change.
The latest version of this Privacy Policy will be made available through the PlugSpend website.
The date at the top of this Privacy Policy indicates when it was most recently updated.
